Now I haven't tried other games, but from the issues with Skyrim and FFXIV, as well as Firefox, I assume most games are affected.Īfter reading up a bit on the issue, I found a dev post aknowledging the issue and promising a fix.in 2017. I remembered my earlier issues and uninstalled Duet Display again, immideatly fixing both the game and Firefox. Immediately after installing the program to my computer, Final Fantasy 14 would display a 'DirectX error code', and force quit, and Firefox would do nothing but display a white screen, no UI at all. Removing the program from my computer immediately fixed the problem.įast-foward two months, and I'd completely forgotten about this problem and reinstalled Duet Display, figuring I'd give it another shot. I figured Duet Display might be causing the issues, and I was correct.
I figured it was time for a driver update anyways, so I download the latest nVidia drivers for my card. In the six-and-a-half years that I've had the game, I've never seen this issue before. That however, is not the main reason for this post.Īfter installing Duet Display on my computer, Skyrim (I know I know, it's fun okay?) would not start, and would not let me select any resolution or graphics settings at all. I purchased the app a couple months ago, downloaded it to my PC, and gave it a whirl. The app lags horribly with Photoshop CC 2018, the rendering entire point of the app pretty much useless. It's basically Astropad for Windows, with far diminished functionality. You can read my review of Astropad Mini right here.If you are not familiar, Duet Display allows your iPad to be used as a second monitor, supposedly meant for art.
The software requires an iPad with iOS 8.0 or later connected to a Mac via USB or Wi-Fi and running OS X Mavericks or later and the free of charge desktop helper app.Īstropad Mini, which turns the iPhone and Apple Watch into a graphics tablet for the Mac, is available at no charge on the App Store.īoth apps have gained the above performance enhancements. The latest version supports panning and zooming gestures across more programs-including Affinity Designer, Art Rage, Clip Studio, Lightroom, Mischief and Sketchbook Pro-and there’s a new handy option to auto-hide the cursor while drawing in settings.Īstropad Drawing Tablet is $29.99 on the App Store. You should experience longer work sessions and extended battery life because the app uses three times less CPU and four times less RAM. The high-performance Liquid engine now runs three times faster with “massively reduced pixelation,” meaning you’ll enjoy virtually no lag and crisper images when drawing into Mac apps on your iPad with your finger.Ī new velocity control helps the app analyze network conditions dozens of times per second in order to balance performance for image quality and latency. “Our newest version of Astropad is more responsive than ever, allowing you complete creative freedom in your favorite Mac apps,” developers state. That’s why I’m happy to report that in its most recent version 2.0 update, Astropad is now even faster and more fluid than before and a lot less taxing on the battery.
There’s very little discernible lag, courtesy of the proprietary Liquid engine providing nearly three times more fluid responsiveness than Apple’s AirPlay.
I’ve been using Astropad quite extensively and it works like magic, really. In fact, it’s too good that people are replacing their Wacom tablets with Astropad and an iPad. You can then draw into most Mac apps directly on your iOS device’s screen, using your finger as a replacement for a professional graphics tablet. Astropad is a very cool app from former Apple engineers designed to let you draw into Mac apps by connecting your iPad or iPhone to the computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
